Houses in the FQ Story Historic District
The FQ Story Historic District is bounded by McDowell Road, Roosevelt Street, Seventh and 17th avenues. The F.Q. Story District was one of the first recognized by the City Historic Preservation Office and the National Register of Historic Places. Many of the homes in Story (named for Francis Quarles Story) date back to the early 1920’s. Interestingly, Story, a Boston wool merchant, never lived in Phoenix. He bought the property for investment purposes. Story was advertised as a streetcar suburb, being close to the Grand Avenue and Kenilworth car lines.
