The City of Phoenix Historic Preservation Office works to protect and enhance historic neighborhoods, structures, and sites. The Office collaborates with the Historic Preservation Commission in the identification and designation of properties and districts for listing on the Phoenix Historic Property Register. Protection is provided to designated properties through City review and approval of exterior alterations to buildings and demolition requests in order to maintain historic integrity. The  Historic Preservation Office also administers a bond fund that supports financial assistance programs for historic properties. Owners of properties in designated Historic Districts are eligible for various city programs developed to assist in local preservation efforts.  Read more about the history of Phoenix here.
