The Alvarado Historic District is a small, lovely historic district in Central Phoenix spanning the intersection of Monte Vista and Alvarado roads, extending north to the Oak Street alignment, east to Third Street and south towards Palm Lane.
It is occasionally called Alvarado Place. The Alvarado Historic District has some of the largest historic houses in Phoenix. Alvarado is located west of the Heard Museum. The original Heard house was the first homes built in this neighborhood. The architectural styles found in Alvarado include a stunning mix of Spanish Colonial Revivals, Mediterranean, Elizabethan Revival, Southern Plantation Style, English Cottages, Cape Cod, Bungalows, and more.
